What We Do
What is automation?
Automation uses technology such as industrial robots, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and computers to perform tasks that would otherwise take valuable employee time. In manufacturing, automation can perform assembly, welding, inspection and material handling tasks. Some benefits of implementing automation into a manufacturing process are: enhanced safety, increased productivity, improved quality control, and reduced labor cost.
Fixed automation
Used for high-volume production of a single product where specialized equipment performs specific tasks repeatedly, also known as hard automation.
Programmable automation
Can be reprogrammed to handle different products or batches by reconfiguring equipment (manually or computer-guided) to accommodate different tasks, commonly used for medium-volume production runs.
Flexible automation
Highly adaptable and versatile with quick changeovers between tasks without significant downtime or manual reprogramming; can be configured to adjust to product variances, different product designs and find inconsistent product locations, also called soft automation.
Integrated automation
Combines multiple automation types into one cohesive, larger system. One example of integrated automation is “lights-out manufacturing” which simply means production can proceed without human involvement.
